The Song of The Seed by Macrina Wiederkehr

Life unfolds
A petal at a time,
slowly.

The beauty of the process is crippled
when I try to hurry growth.
Life has its inner rhythm
which must be respected.
It cannot be rushed or hurried.

Like daylight stepping out of darkness,
like morning creeping out of night,
life unfolds slowly a petal at a time
like a flower opening to the sun,
slowly.

God’s call unfolds
A Word at a time,
slowly.

A disciple is not made in a hurry.
Slowly I become like the One
to whom I am listening.

Life unfolds
a petal at a time
like you and I
becoming followers of Jesus,
discipled into a new way of living
deeply and slowly.

Be patient with life’s unfolding petals.
If you hurry the bud, it withers.
If you hurry life, it limps.

Each unfolding is a teaching
a movement of grace filled with silent pauses,
breathtaking beauty
tears and heartaches.

Life unfolds
a petal at a time
deeply and slowly.

May it come to pass!

Why Must I Write?

How do you live in the moment yet plan for the future?

How do you let go of something you love?

Why not hold on tight, if you fear that you’ll lose her?

Why do you fear, if love is enough?

How will fate find you if you travel away?

Why do you dream of forever when all you have is today?

Why must I insist on understanding it all?

Does a painting ever ask why it hangs on the wall?

No more can it understand the totality of the hall

Then I can my Creator, or why I must write at all…

God didn’t create us because He was lonely and needed us. Just as a songwriter doesn’t write a song because he needs the song.

A songwriter writes a song because he needs to communicate himself.

So it is with God, when He created us.

The Tragedy of Art

Too often artists begin to perceive their work as a product of their own intellect; forgetting that the mind is the great deceiver and that creativity is in fact a gift entrusted to the artist. Suddenly and inevitably, the work becomes more about the ego and less about the art itself, changing the person from an artist to an egomaniac. In my opinion, this is the most common danger faced by the artist of today and also the greatest tragedy of art.
