My Hope For You This New Year (A Poem)

My hope for you this New Year

is forgiveness of yourself and others,

revival of what matters most,

relationships with friends and lovers.

My hope for you is motivation,

bigger dreams, and inspiration.

Realistic goals and follow through,

these things are my hope for you.

My hope for you this New Year

is healing what you’ve broken;

repairing, mending, letting go

of all apologies left unspoken.

I hope when you look back to where

you were this time last year,

you’re in an entirely different place.

Your truest self is ever near.

I hope that you have grown and changed.

With open arms embrace the pain,

search for joy, and new love, too.

These things are my hope for you.

The Many Faces of Christmas (A Poem)

Cold streets, winter nights

Warm windows, wrapped with lights

Loneliness and hands that freeze

Mistletoes and sparkling trees

Santa Clause finds some, not all

Some are at the Christmas Ball

While some are huddled close together

Under bridges, facing weather

Some are warm, by a fire

Some at stores, the constant buyer

Some in Church, singing praise

Some are gone, been so for days

As you join family and friends

Think of all the faces that Christmas lends

And don’t complain, whatever you do

There’s always someone who has it worse than you.

Joy

I know that Joy is right around the corner from me
Peaking out with its familiar face

Trembling that we’ll miss eachother
With fear that she’ll not recognize me

Smiling, bright eyed
I wait for

Joy.

An Amazing Story of Facebook and God Colliding

This past weekend, I received an amazing message from my 10th grade History teacher. I hadn’t spoken to him in almost ten years when he reached out to me on Facebook this past weekend. See his message below.

I remember years ago, being in his class and feeling called to write him a note of encouragement. I never heard from him about the note that year, so I assumed it didn’t mean much to him and frankly, as time went on, I forgot about it. Little did I know, God had plans for this note that were far greater than I could have hoped at the time.

This is an amazing testimony to why we must answer God’s calling at the moment we hear it, whether or not we can foresee any positive results. His timing is perfect!

Let the Music Move You (A Poem)

Let the music move you. Let the moment take you by the hand. Let it lead you to the dance floor.

I hope you dance.

Ride with the windows down. Let the breeze flow through your hair. Thrive like a wildflower.

I hope people stare.

Forever Young

Ah, yes. Youth.

People fight for it, live for it, die for it. What is our obsession with youth?

I would argue the value of youth is something we know instinctively.

For where there is youth, there is hope…

Where there is hope, there is wonder…

Where there is wonder, there is faith…

Where there is faith, there is chance…

Where there is chance, there is love…

Ah, yes. Alas, love.

We fight for it, live for it, die for it. And rightfully so.

The Good Thing About Pain

The good thing about pain is that it breaks down the walls of your ego, tones back relentless ambitions, and forces you into the present – enhancing your awareness of and appreciation for all of the people in your life. As it is through and with these people, that you can once again experience moments of joy.

Fun Challenge

Fun challenge: make it your personal goal to make at least one person’s day, every day.

The Music Business

It’s the music business. You pour your heart out to people and then wait for their response. Sometimes they eat you alive…so if you can’t take the heat, then get out of the kitchen. But sometimes, they love every bit of you. And during those times, all of the hard work and heartbreak is worth it because there’s no better feeling than to be loved and appreciated for the realest, purest form of you- your heart.
