It’s Personal!

“If you want to make a difference, the next time you see someone being cruel to another human being, take it personally. Take it personally because it is personal!” – Brene Brown

To love other people, you must encourage them. To encourage them, you must BELIEVE in them. Here is an acronym taken from John C. Maxwell in his book Relationships 101.

Believe in them before they succeed.

Emphasize their strengths.

List their past successes.

Instill confidence when they fail.

Experience some wins together.

Visualize their future success.

Expect a new level of living.

Sympathy vs. Charity

When we see someone in need, who’s homeless for example, I think it’s wrong to automatically feel bad for them.

I think we’ve somehow come to believe that because a person is in need, they’re candidates for sympathy, not just charity.

We don’t just want to buy them groceries, we want to buy them dignity.

And yet, by judging them, we’re the ones taking away their dignity in the first place…

Don’t Look Down On Others

The only time we should look down on another person is when we are reaching out our hand to lift them up.

Those who have suffered understand suffering and therefore extend their hand. – Patti Smithhelping-image-2
