“Don’t be ashamed of scars. They simply mean that you’re stronger than whatever tried to hurt you.” -Unknown
In an argument, even if we are right and the other person is dead wrong, we only destroy ego by causing another to lose face. We have no right to say or do anything that diminishes a man in his own eyes. After all, what matters most is not what we think of him, but what he thinks of himself. Therefore, always preserve the dignity of others. In an argument, always let the other person save face.
Most of us are our own worst critics. When often, we need to be our own best cheerleader. Sometimes you just need to stop, look back at all you’ve been through, and thank yourself for all that you’ve done.
We’re constantly pushing ourselves forward, while forgetting to look back and reflect. Ironically, if you push yourself too hard for too long, you freeze.
The easiest way to unfreeze yourself is to stop focusing on all you have yet to accomplish and instead focus on all that you already have. Thank yourself. Be proud of yourself. Eventually, self belief will return and your motivation will soon follow.
“…you were saved not in order to live…you have little time you must give testimony.
Be courageous when the mind deceives you, be courageous. In the final account, only this is important.
Beware, however, of unnecessary pride. Keep looking at your clown’s face in the mirror. Repeat: I was called- weren’t there better ones than I…”
-Zbigniew Herbert, from “The Envoy of Mr. Cogito”
