The Path of Prayer

“The one concern of the devil is to keep the
saints from prayer. Our enemy fears nothing from prayerless
studies, prayerless work, prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil,
mocks at our wisdom, but trembles when we pray. Prayer turns
ordinary mortals into men of power. Prayer brings fire. It brings
rain. It brings life. It brings God. There is no power like that of
prevailing prayer.” Samuel Chadwick, The Path of Prayer

How Much Do You Trust Me? -God

Tonight God asked me, “How much do you trust me?”

“A lot,” I said.

He laughed, as He often does, “OK. But do you trust me enough?”

He continued, “Enough to stop worrying about time and how much of it you have? Have you not seen how my timing is perfect? Enough to stop obsessing over your to do list? What if I have better things for you to do? When you pray to me ‘Jesus, take the wheel’, do you really mean it? Will you let me? Do you trust me enough to lay your head on the pillow at night without your mind racing? Will you accept my offering of peace? Will you find your rest in me?”

I sat, once again, dumbfounded in His presence.

“You say you trust me ‘alot’ but is it enough?”

O Divine Master

O Divine Master, ask that I not so much seek

to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand;

to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive.

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

and it is in dying to self that we are reborn

to eternal life.

-St. Francis

Listening in Prayer

Plenty of us pray regularly. We submit our requests to God and thank Him for our blessings. But how many of us really take the time to listen to what God has to say back? This takes practice and as aforementioned, time (something of which most of us believe we don’t have enough).

We spend our days engaging with the world, fulfilling our duties, and crossing items off our checklist. But we do ourselves a grave disservice when we don’t make the time to listen to God. We grossly underestimate the negative impact this can have on our lives. In what other relationship would we ask a person for something and then run off without hearing his/her answer? Remember, God became a Person for this very reason- so we, his beloved people, could communicate with Him! Communication is a two way street. And He loves talking to us just as much as He loves hearing from us. Don’t give God the short end of the stick.
