Never Trust Your Eyes

If the human mind

from its inception

is deceitful in all

of its recollections,

then the human eyes,

which form perception,

must constitute the

greatest deception.

Words are Overrated

Go to another country and fall in love with someone who doesn’t speak your language.

Then you realize words are just words.

We use them carelessly, wrecklessly, and far too often. We toss words around like rice but whether they fall on deaf ears or pierce souls, we can’t be sure. Once spoken, we relinquish control.

Once they slither from our tongues, they become like mist- impossible to catch, form, or direct.

Like moments and bullets, once out there, words can’t be retrieved.

So communicate with body language, feeling, energies, but use words only when necessary. So much pain and misunderstanding could be skirted if we used less words.

A Poem: “Suffering Is”

Suffering is

the dark cloud

that produces tears

like

rain

watering the flower

of compassion,

enabling it

to

grow.

Free Spirits (Part II)

Due to the high volume of positive responses on my poem “Free Spirits”, I have decided to continue it here. By the way, I am so glad that you all enjoy the writing- it makes me feel special 🙂

Here’s to the free spirits

Who’ve had enough

with the world’s expectations

and society’s bluff.

No, they’re not perfect

but they’re as real as it comes.

Here’s to the free spirits

Yea, here’s to us!

A Rekindled Fire

In a cafe

on Broadway,

I

saw an old flame.

He approached me.

Looked at me

and said,

“What ya know,

I just

saw you sitting

here

while I was

sitting there

alone”.

A Poem: “Your Love is Mean”

Your love is mean

Your love is mean

But you mean so much to me

How can it be?

Your lies, deceit

Your love is mean.

Can’t you see

just what I mean?

Why it’s your love I don’t need

Still you remain inside of me

Your love is mean.

Frozen in Self Doubt

Most of us are our own worst critics. When often, we need to be our own best cheerleader. Sometimes you just need to stop, look back at all you’ve been through, and thank yourself for all that you’ve done.

We’re constantly pushing ourselves forward, while forgetting to look back and reflect. Ironically, if you push yourself too hard for too long, you freeze.

The easiest way to unfreeze yourself is to stop focusing on all you have yet to accomplish and instead focus on all that you already have. Thank yourself. Be proud of yourself. Eventually, self belief will return and your motivation will soon follow.

A Poem I Wrote at Age 11

“Stars”

Why do we call them stars

when the stars are in the sky?

Are they worthy of this name?

Not nearly, and I know why.

While the Stars only shine

when the cameras are on,

the real Stars shine all night

until the crack of dawn.

So why do we call them Stars?

Are they worthy of this name?

No, and if they are

then we are too,

for all humans are the same.

I’m writing this poem

for all the world to see,

that calling the “stars” celebrities

will be just fine with me.

A Poem I Wrote at Age 12

Found this in an old journal of mine and thought it was kind of sweet. It portrays a wise insight told from the eyes of an innocent, inquisitive, and observant little girl (me;).

“Size”

If all size is, is a number

that helps us choose which jeans to buy

then why does it matter so?

I mean why has it caused people to get sick

or sometimes even die

when their real size will never show?

If it’s a guy or friend

who’s telling you your weight is wrong

Then you definitely do not need them

Walk away, be strong.

So tell me if you would,

exactly what does size mean?

Is it the way people judge us?

Or the number on our jeans?

Now life is short

and bodies weren’t made to hate.

So please don’t let life pass you

because you’re worrying about your weight.

Free Spirits

Here’s to the free spirits

Who fall in love

Keep their minds wide open

and their heads up.

And though they’re crushed and broken

They’re still fearless and tough

Here’s to the free spirits,

yea, here’s to us!
