Desire

Desire is a funny thing. It can range from a slight want to an all consuming obsession.

But it’s always in our head. And our minds can play tricks on us.

Think about a time when you’ve wanted something so bad and finally got it. It wasn’t exactly what you thought it’d be was it?

For example, I really wanted another dog. I mean really wanted one. The desire almost took on a life of its own- keeping me awake at night, scrolling through photos of shelter dogs in need. Eventually, I got another dog. But I forgot about the totality of what this means. Housebreaking, chewing, barking. Sure, it’s great having another dog, but there are drawbacks to it, as well.

There always are. For everything you gain, you lose something else. And we tend to forget this when consumed by desire. We forget to look at the totality of the picture and how our want fits into that.

I think it’s important to remind ourselves of this whenever we begin to feeling the aching of desire. We can never see the whole picture but we can do our best to look at our wants through a larger lens.

Most importantly, we should be grateful for what we already have and remember that what we have right now, is all we really need.

The Problem with The New Age

The problem with New Age Spirituality is that it whispers we can be gods. It plays on our desire to be able to count on ourselves, carve our own paths, and determine our own futures.

No doubt, it alludes to God, and offers reasonable tribute to God in the way of time, attention, and love but, ultimately, New Age Spirituality says these things are ours, not His.

The New Age suggests that we are nouns, when in fact we are, and always will be, simply adjectives.

God’s Not After Obedience

God is not after obedience.

If He was, He would have created robots.

God doesn’t just want to change your behaviors. He wants to change your heart.

God is after desire.

Why I Need Jesus

Jesus guides me. He is the way, the truth, and the life. I am convinced that if left unguided, my thought process would no doubt drive me right into the ground. Or crash me into concrete. Surrendering to God, allowing Jesus to take the wheel, doesn’t diminish me to nothing, as one might suspect. No, in fact, I’ve noticed the more I surrender to God, the more He blooms me more solidly into myself.

The People in Your Life

God doesn’t give you the people you want. He gives you the people you need. To help you, to hurt you, to leave you, to love you and ultimately to make you the person you were meant to be. -Unknown

Listening is Love

“Listening is an attitude of the heart, a genuine desire to be with another which both attracts and heals.” – J. Isham
