Remember…
You still have 5 days left to make the most of 2013. Be sure to make today count!
Life Must be Lived
“No, life cannot be understood flat on a page. It has to be lived; a person has to get out of his head, has to fall in love, has to memorize poems, has to jump off bridges into rivers, has to stand in an empty desert and whisper sonnets under his breath… We get one story, you and I, and one story alone. God has established the elements, the setting and the climax and resolution. It would be a crime not to venture out, wouldn’t it?”
-Donald Miller
When You Find Your Calling but Don’t Listen to It: How Your Body Acts Out
Have you ever found that activity you were made for? While you’re doing it your whole self, from the tips of your toes to your head to your soul, screams, “This is what I was made for!” It’s similar to an adrenaline rush but not the same. An adrenaline rush is more of a one time thing. Eventually, as the activity is repeated, the rush will dissipate as the activity simply doesn’t provide that same stimulation.
Not so with finding your calling. Doing what you were made to do gives you that same high over and over again for as long as you do it. I believe we were made to live this way. But the tragedy is most of us settle for less.
Ever tried doing something else for a living after having found your calling? Your whole body refuses. Day and night, it mumbles with depression- but what about ——? Oh, sure, there are moments of happiness but the sorrow which permeates is ever present, like a shadow over all you hope to accomplish. Point is, your body knows when you’re doing what you were made to do. You’re soul, mind, heart… they all know. It is quite literally a physical reaction that we have to doing (or not doing) our “job”.
We all know what it’s like to have a friend or family member mad at us. Their disappointment and dissatisfaction combined with our guilt and shame, weighs on us like a cinder block in the ocean. Similarly, not following your calling, when you’ve been blessed enough to find it, is like having your own self mad at you. And having to face that person in the mirror, day in and day out.
A Tribute to Paul Walker
“I live by ‘Go big or go home.’ That’s with everything. It’s like either commit and go for it or don’t do it at all. I apply that to everything. I apply that to relationships, I apply that to sports, I apply that to everything. That’s what I live by. That’s how I like it.” – Paul Walker
I agree, Paul Walker! Any other way undermines what it means to truly live. Thanks for inspiring us all! Rest in peace.
Our Calling
What are you doing when you feel most alive? Have you ever experienced a moment when life seems to slow down, almost to the point of stopping? Were you in the middle of some activity and hours passed by without you even noticing? Whatever it is that you were doing, that is your calling. We’re all called. We were all created with a unique purpose. The problem is most people spend their lives trying to find it or busying themselves so as not to think about it. But if you remember a time where life slowed down, time passed without you knowing, and you felt so energized that a cup of coffee never even crossed your mind…then you’ve already found your calling. Whatever you were doing in that moment, that’s it.
The Lies We Tell Ourselves
Don’t listen to the lies you tell yourself. Make no excuses. You deserve the life you want and no one is responsible for withholding that from you besides your own self! Wait on nothing. Except the Lord, our God. Wait on Him only and have faith that He will see you through this rough period of your life. God rewards action. Begin today, by taking strategic steps to put “life” back into your life. Sign up for activities, groups, volunteer, anything and everything that makes you feel alive!
A Strange Thing
It’s a strange thing when you start to feel better after thinking you never would. It’s even stranger when you want to love again after losing the love of your life. A part of you says, “No, you can’t! It’d be a betrayal.” But another part of you, the better part of you, screams, “Yes! Live again! Love again!”
